Hey! Listen!

This is NOT a time to listen later! Below, I have provided an example of Kabuki theatre performed by Bandō Tamasaburō, who is the most celebrated and widely known Kabuki actor of modern times. He is an onnagata, a man specializing in female roles, which if you watch the clip, you may not believe it (I didn’t realize he was a man until about half way through the video and I saw the comment on YouTube.)
Also, it is narrated in English, so you know exactly what’s going on in the story.
Enjoy!

  1. I thought this clip was really cool and telling about Kabuki theatre/dance. The time he takes with the movements is very admirable because the technique MUST be there when you are moving slowly or it does not look good. I also thought it was interesting that the lyrics were written by a geisha. Paige you have ensnared my vote :P

  4. The scrubs video is infinitely entertaining and the real video showcases the beautiful precision of this art-form. It makes me understand how people can claim that only men can capture the grace of a woman in such a way, kudos good find!
