This is NOT a time to listen later! Below, I have provided an example of Kabuki theatre performed by Bandō Tamasaburō, who is the most celebrated and widely known Kabuki actor of modern times. He is an onnagata, a man specializing in female roles, which if you watch the clip, you may not believe it (I didn’t realize he was a man until about half way through the video and I saw the comment on YouTube.)
Also, it is narrated in English, so you know exactly what’s going on in the story.

ReplyDeleteI thought this clip was really cool and telling about Kabuki theatre/dance. The time he takes with the movements is very admirable because the technique MUST be there when you are moving slowly or it does not look good. I also thought it was interesting that the lyrics were written by a geisha. Paige you have ensnared my vote :P
