What I found most interesting about the "Bursting the Grape" review was when it said "The chorus in Bursting the Grape was of paramount importance to the play as a whole. Present throughout, they both provided a commentary on the actions of the protagonists, and helped to create settings for the various scenes, using their own physical presence with only minimal props." As musical theatre students we often believe that being in the chorus or ensemble of a production is not the most important part of the show. According to an article on Didaskalia, they said that for performers in the chorus "The effort of dancing and singing through three tragedies and a satyr play was likened to that of competing in the Olympic Games." which I think is almost unimaginable, but extremely impressive.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh yeah!! I totally know how you feel, always thinking that chorus is unimportant! This class is totally changing my veiw on that eh?
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Thats always something you hear your dance and musical theatre teachers saying, but this really puts things into perspective!
ReplyDeleteThis is really mind blowing to me because of what Elise said about them using minimal props and their own physicality!
