Origins of Western Musical Theatre

As the title suggests I am also quite excited to learn more about the origins of musical theatre. Again, I have done a little research on this previously, but my knowledge is far from complete at this point. It would be interesting to see how musical theatre sprung from other music forms, such as opera and art song.
